*** Sold at auction: £138,500 *** Lot 41: Former Methodist Chapel, Street Lane, Denby, Derbyshire. DE5 8NE
Extensive former chapel premises with scope for a variety of uses (subject to planning permission)
Guide Price: £110,000 + Auction date - 6th September 2007, Pride Park, Derby.
Street Lane lies between Denby and Ripley and is a semi rural location surrounded by open countryside. The village primary/junior school is situated a few yards south of the chapel property.
Of typical chapel architecture, the premises comprise a rectangular meeting room of about 1220 square feet behind which is a vestry with loft room above, kitchen area with access to cellar, and ladies and gents wc's. A largely surfaced forecourt permits off road parking for two vehicles, and a large area of ground to the rear of the premises would serve as an extensive garden area subject to landscaping.
It is considered that the premises are suited to a variety of either commercial or residential purposes. However no planning consent for alternative uses has been sought and the property is sold with whatever potential it may have other than its existing use as a place of worship.
In more detail, the accommodation is as follows -
Entrance Foyer With double entrance doors, leading into -
Church Room 42'6" x 28'9" Having cathedral style roof construction (doubtless capable of taking a second floor) and with cathedral style coloured and leaded windows.
Vestry 11' x 10'9" With loft access to former school room above.
Kitchen Area 12'4" x 10'7" With stainless steel sink. Trap door access to Cellar beneath (former boiler house).
Accessed off the kitchen area are Ladies and Gents Separate WC's and a rear entrance door.
Externally Small forecourt with capability of off road parking. Substantial area of land to rear (see plan).
Architectural Note It is believed that the property was constructed in about 1841, with later additions to form the kitchen and wc areas. Although laid out on one floor, the main chapel is of two storey proportions and the front elevation is decorated with stone banding, sills and lintels. The timbered ceiling to the main chapel is a particularly interesting and attractive feature.
The property has an overall site frontage of about 50 feet (15.5 metres) and a total depth of about 175 feet (53 metres) - creating an overall site area of 895 square yards (750 square metres).
